If you are unable to work due to an illness or injury, disability insurance can help you meet expenses and maintain your standard of living. By replacing a portion of your income, disability insurance can help provide financial security until you get back on your feet and return to work.

Short Term Disability Coverage

SIP provides all eligible (following 6 months of continuous service) full-time employees, working at least 40 hours a week, Short Term Disability coverage should you become disabled with a non-work-related illness or injury. After being disabled for 1 day for an accident or 8 days for an illness, you may be eligible for up to 60% of your weekly income tax free up to $1,000 for up to 26 weeks. Claims are subject to pre-existing condition exclusions. Work related injuries are not eligible to be paid under the short-term disability benefit. Benefit payments are considered taxable income.

Long Term Disability Coverage

SIP provides all eligible exempt salaried (12 month waiting period, following 1st of month) full-time employees, working at least 40 hours a week, Long Term Disability coverage should you become disabled with a non-work-related illness or injury. After being disabled for 180 days, you may be eligible for up to 60% of your monthly income, less deductible sources of income, at a maximum of $10,000 per month up to normal social security retirement age.

Voluntary Long Term Disability Coverage

SIP offers all eligible non-exempt hourly, non-exempt salaried employees or exempt sales representatives (12 month waiting period, following 1st of month) full-time employees, working at least 40 hours a week, the option to purchase Voluntary Long Term Disability coverage should you become disabled with a non-work-related illness or injury. After being disabled for 180 days, you may be eligible for up to 60% of your monthly income, less deductible sources of income, at a maximum of $10,000 per month up to normal social security retirement age.

Voluntary Term Life

You may purchase additional, supplemental term life coverage in the amounts for you and your dependents below:

  • Employee: $50,000 – $200,000, Spouse: $25,000, Child(ren): $10,000
  • The amount of spouse Supplemental coverage may never exceed 100% of the Combined Basic and Supplemental Amount of Life Insurance the employee is eligible for.
